Saturday 24th April. Well I have been trying to put an entry in but there's something wrong with the date so it just won't happen. I'm altering the date so let's see if it'll work this time? it's very sunny here at the moment at quite hot. I've been down on the marshes.

    Protest
Saturday: There was a protest opposite downing street to show opposition to what is happening in Iraq, e.g. the US massacres in Falluja. I'd only heard about the 'lobby' of Downing Street the evening before whilst talking with a friend on the phone. It was called at short notice and there wasn't any advertising. So I cycled into town. The weather was sunny but windy and not that warm, actually it was a bit chilly and the strong headwind made it a bit difficult cycling, however I made it in 1 hour 10 minutes. I arrived at 1pm. There was already a sizeable number there but the police, including many who were armed, were keeping most of the demonstrators well back, across the road from Downing Street. A few got nearer including a person carrying a large Palestinian flag. A group of pro Palestine marchers also passed by. I heard Bruce Kent chair of CND speaking and after that protest chanting was lead, using a sound system, by a school student named Hannah who is a well known figure at such events, as well as another young woman, also called Hannah. This wwent on for quite a while. Blair was back in the country although it was not known exactly where. If he was in Downing Street he could not have failed to have been aware of our presence. I met a guy from the sixth form of a school in Whitsatble in Kent, he was on his own having come in on the train to join the protest, it took him 1 hr 20 min. on the fast train. So we kinda joined up. After the main chanting led by the two Hannahs finished (so the soundsystem could be put away)a group of school/college students kept up the protest chants using a megaphone and the power of the collective human voice, many others joined in. We also got plenty of support from passing motorists driving along Whitehall. After this we went to a pub, De Hems, a Netherlands pub in Chinatown. After seeing this sixth form student back to Victoria (as he didn't know London that well) I went down to see the permanent protest opposite the houses of parliament.
In the evening me and some Hungarian students went to the White Horse pub in Soho. Had a good time, bit of a drink bit of a smoke. Great fun. And then It was time to ride through the night home.

    my new helmet
So begins another dreary day. Muswell Hill 10 am I'm going out on my bike and this gives me a chance to try out my new cycling helmet - 'The Black Helmet Rides Again!' I got one because my mum's been on about me getting one, with all the heavy traffic in London. Talking of heavy traffic I ride along the North Circular Road - now how exciting is that? - I cycle passed all the great landmarks: Friern Bridge, a gasometer, Connaught Grange - the list is almost endless, the architectural delights of the A406, my new sleek black helmet gleaming in the dull cloudy overcast. The purpose of my quest - a dental appointment! Highlight of the week. After the delights of the dentists chair I went into the local library. It's a big building full of books, what's all that about eh?. I received a couple of e-mails from my friend Jenna in Dunbar, who's just got a car. Perhaps next time I go up she will give me a ride. Won't that be fun. Anyway I had a good time last night and who knows what the rest of today has in store. Hooray for Thursday.
